Concerning blogging hobbits...

Did you know that hobbits enjoy giving presents on their birthdays? They do! And since I am a hobbit of the Tookish sort, and this being my blog birthday, I'd like to offer you a chance at a present. I only wish my photo were as pretty as the objects offered. These are some little trinkets crafted by artists from my neck of the woods. This prezzie includes a hand-carved and painted wooden bird, a little stone squirrel, a silver acorn, and a miniature Andrew Wyeth painting/magnet.

All you need to do is to leave a comment on this post (lurkers, this includes you, so if you've never commented before, don't be shy now). Deadline is Friday July 23rd at 11:59PM EST. Next week I will pick one name out of a hat, and then this little package will wing its way to you, wherever you are in the world!

Curious Acorn is one year old today. I've been so appreciative of all the readers and commenters that have visited this little space. It's been a pleasure getting to know each of you.

"Hobbits give presents to one another on their own birthdays. Not very expensive ones, as a rule, and not so lavishly as on this occasion; but it was not a bad system. Actually in Hobbiton and Bywater, every day in the year it was somebody's birthday, so that every hobbit in those parts had a fair chance of at least one present at least once a week. They never got tired of them."

  9. I have three little hobbits. They run out to the garden as children and return as hobbits. Its the feet that give it away each time. My three little hobbits believe that birthdays should come more than once a year, but I make them stick to the once.

Congrats on a year. What a nice thing to celebrate. Oh and many happy returns.

  10. I would comment even if you weren't giving stuff away, because I'm so happy you're back and so obviously inspired by New Zealand-world. Gotta go see what was happening on Emily's blog yesterday. Sounds like I missed something fun.

  13. Congratulations on your first year of blogging! I am so happy to have discovered you because I always learn something new here...like how to bake shortbread in a pot over an open fire, the colonial way...not that I'd ever try that, but I'm sure a few of my ancestors did and I like imagining what their daily lives might have been like. It is always a pleasure to visit here.

  32. Well. This is just to show that I really love your blog so far, and I REALLY loved this post, and I can't resist commenting even though the giveaway of really really adorable goodies has come and gone. (I fully realize that I just used the word "really" four times in the last paragraph, but I couldn't help myself. I think it was appropriate.)

I think you might be a kindred spirit. Between hobbits and Signs, I mean. Although I have so many favorite quotes from that movie I don't think I could pick one...

I'm looking forward to visiting you here more often!
