All in a Day's Work

I taught a hearth cooking class today. Gingerbread cake, fried apples, shortbread, and whipped cream--delicious autumn. Anyway, my prep work finished earlier than I expected, and I was able to wander around the farmhouse before the students arrived. I love the soft light that fills the rooms on a sunny day. I snapped a few pics with my cell phone while fully dressed in colonial garb. That must have been a sight. So here's a glimpse of a day in October, 1798.

  1. That sounds so yummy. They just had a Open Hearth demonstration at our local archives and museum. I missed it. So bummed. Maybe next time.

  2. Love the picture of you in my mind in period dress with the cell phone. My brain is done for the day--I read the beginning line as health cooking instead of hearth cooking. I though, "Gee, I want to know how to make healthy cake and fried apples." By the time I got shortbread I knew it was too good to be true. Reread. All sounds amazing!

I've missed you!! First, let me say congrats on your new grandson!! Second, I love your job...sounds so fun.
I just returned from your neck of the woods. My son and his family live in N.H. We stayed in a Lake house close to Laconia, do you know where that is? It's so pretty!! I'll be posting pics of the place, as I go.
Have a wonderful weekend dear friend!! Enjoy.

  7. Sounds so yummy, apples and gingerbread!

One of my favorite anachronisms happened when my grandson was about 4 yrs old. He was playing save the princess with his mother as the princess to be rescued. He was the knight bouncing along on his spring horse to save her. He pulled his toy cell phone out of his pocket and shouted, "Hang on Princess, I'm almost there!"

  12. I love those quill pens and vials of ink! When I was little, I used to have a tiny green ink-pot and a feather pen from American Girl. One of my favorite treasures.

  13. I love the photos! One of my favorite ways to spend an afternoon is at the living history farm in our area, chatting with the volunteers and feeling like I've stepped back in time. I have a collection of photos I've taken there, just to feel like I'm in a Little House novel.

  14. Love visiting pioneer farms and seeing the inner workings of those days, in many ways their lifestyle was much simpler than now.
