The house is quiet and tidy, so no distractions there. It seems like a perfect time to settle down with imagination, pen and ink, and lots of love for my grandy-babas far away. Now there are three--Izzy, Remy, and Tilly. I hope to continue this tradition for as long as I can. You can read about it
here. I'll give you a peek when I'm finished.
A grand tradition it is. Can't wait to get a peek.
ReplyDeleteJodi! After your post about the book last year, I gave it to our family for a gift. Your grands are so lucky to have you...I know you miss them.
ReplyDeleteLove to you this Thanksgiving!
my house is not tidy. Boo. But that isn't keeping me from enjoying myself. Your babies are blessed to have you. I can't wait to sneak a peek!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving!
The book you asked about at my blog is The Book of Old English Songs and Ballads, illustrated by Eleanor Fortescue Brickdale. You can see some of her work at art.com, etc....
ReplyDeleteHave fun writing to your darling grandblessings!
Oh, and that overhead picture of my granddaughters was taken by their Dad who is about 6'6 1/2". I'm always fascinated by how different the world looks to tall people, compared to my not quite 5'1" self.
ReplyDeleteKristi, thank you. Being a shorty myself, I'm always amazed at the view my 6'3" husband has when I stand on a chair to see what he sees.
ReplyDeleteOstrich, I find being tidy a challenge, but I can't be creative unless there's order around me. Ahh, there's the rub.
Southern Gal and Kit, thank you muchly, girls.
ReplyDeleteHa! (That was the sound of me gasping in excitement over this post.) Your grandkids are so lucky - that is a wonderful tradition. I love all your bottles of ink and the way you decorated your letter to the first grand baby.
ReplyDeleteyour just so creative, sure to be a beauty when your done
ReplyDeleteI LOVE it! I will be stealing this idea when I have children of my own someday. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat way to begin Advent. My heart leapt at the reminder to roll up my sleeves and do some of our own tradition keeping. Thanks for the reminder, Jodi!
ReplyDeleteBesides that, though, was Tolkien a genius or what? Or was he a grown up that never neglected his childlike heart (like someone else...)
Oh- the excitement that you will start within and among your kids' kids!
I'm so happy to peruse your old post and remember to sit with Tolkien's book during these deepish long nights and brush off the cobwebs of my heart.
I just found your blog yesterday and I enjoyed it very much. Those Christmas letters will be keepers for sure.
ReplyDeleteYou can adopt me as an oldish grandchild:)
ReplyDeleteI love how you live with such intention. It humbles me.
