HOW CAN I KEEP FROM SINGING
Robert Lowry

My life flows on in endless song:
Above earth's lamentation,
I catch the sweet, tho' far-off hymn
That hails a new creation.
Through all the tumult and the strife
I hear the music ringing;
It finds an echo in my soul--
How can I keep from singing?

What tho' my joys and comfort die?
The Lord my Saviour liveth;
What tho' the darkness gather round?
Songs in the night he giveth.
No storm can shake my inmost calm,
While to that refuge clinging;
Since Christ is Lord of heaven and earth,
How can I keep from singing?

I lift my eyes; the cloud grows thin;
I see the blue above it;
And day by day this pathway smooths,
Since first I learned to love it.
The peace of Christ makes fresh my heart,
A fountain ever springing;
All things are mine since I am his--
How can I keep from singing?

Observating the Little Miss as she learns to move as a bi-ped and interact in the world; it has become apparent to me that we are built for the purpose of worshiping through song and dance. We are pre-programmed to want to make music and respond to music by dancing. No one need teach a child to dance in order for the child to begin, as soon as the child learns to stand, to bounce when music is played.
When music enters our ears and is accepted by our spirit, our spirit uses the music to worship, and the sound may only exit through an outlet of emotion as through a tear, smile or a dance.
Songs stay with our spirit and in our memory long after the music ends to enable a continuation of worship that is not reliant on the continuation of the outside stimulus of the song.
In this way, we are fearfully and wonderfully made. Able to use our whole bodies and minds to allow our spirits to communicate through song and dance with the being to be worshiped.
An awesome ability, but an awesome responsibility to ensure the propriety in worship.

This is a lovely hymn to be thankful for. I love the photos you chose to illustrate it, too. Favorite stanza:

My life flows on in endless song:
Above earth's lamentation,
I catch the sweet, tho' far-off hymn
That hails a new creation.
Through all the tumult and the strife
I hear the music ringing;
It finds an echo in my soul--
How can I keep from singing?

Beautiful words all, but this captured me "And day by day this pathway smooths, Since first I learned to love it." The power of love. Thanks, Jodi.
