Life Imitates Art, or A Little Winter Nonsense, or…

You know you’re really lucky when the man you’re married to, who while accompanying you to buy some practical winter boots, does not get annoyed when you say, “Ooh look! Boots that look just the shoes Fanny Brawne wore in Bright Star! You know, Bright Star, my favorite movie?” I loved those shoes the moment I saw them.

By the way, if you’re anything like me, and you’re watching a cinematically beautiful film, you must watch it twice--once for the visuals, second for the dialogue. Because if you’re anything like me, you’ll remember stuff, like shoes the heroine wore, and you’ll secretly desire them.

So when you go out on a cold winter night looking for practical snow boots, and come home instead with Fanny Brawne’s shoes, and you’re married to a guy who doesn’t question your logic or sarcastically ask, “How old are you?” but rather says, “They’re really cool, and they’re you. Go for it,” well, you know you’re just one lucky bug.

What a truly blessed lady you are :)

Love the shoes, by the way--tres chic!

Oh dude, you are so lucky! My husband is like that, too.
The shoes are awesome, Jodi! Much more fun than practical boots. I like your reenactment from the movie scene.

wonderful, wonderful shoes! (confession: i'm a little bit envious...)

You are one lucky bug. I would never squish you if you wandered into my bathroom.

Miss Ostrich, how reassuring!

Kit, I adore being called dude.

Tamara, don't be envious. Get yourself over to T.J. Maxx. They're cheap.

Julia, merci beaucoup!

Looooooove It! And I approve! Points for Dad too.

I am also glad to know I get that from you. Go out to get clothes to wear to preschool and come home with a dress hee hee hee.

I love the pictures. They are so wintery warm. You are lucky I can't borrow them.

Your little sister thinks she's gonna borrow them, too. Ain't happenin' girlies! tic tac toe

...I also forgot (more relevantly) my list of inappropriate shoe instances: Climbing a mountain in ballet flats, walking (and running) through the city in stilettoes, the locoste slip-ons during capture the flag and very memorable, wearing my comic book chucks the night I got engaged :/

yes you ARE one lucky bug. and cute, too, in your new boots. they ARE you. i haven't watched that movie, but now i want too...

Nice shoes. They look fun. (Are you going to sneak back and buy the practical snow boots when no one is looking? This from the girl who lives in boots and wellies! All footwear purchased at the farm shop when I pick up the chicken feed. There is no hope for me!)

I told my husband that I thought he was going to have to sit on my feet to keep my toes warm during church this past Sunday. He just shook his head. He really does have a thing about practical footwear but loves me (tolerates me?) anyway.

your nonsense make perfect sense to me. It usually does.

A lovely post that makes me smile :0)

Isn't it nice to have a chap who says "If you're happy, I'm Happy" (It more than compensates for normal domestic irritations..and is a good thought to hold onto when silence is the wisest option ..lol)

Shoe perfection. I'm thrilled for you!
And, yes, that kind of guy is a treasure to have. :) (I have one!)
This makes me want to post a picture of my favorite new shoes. I've been meaning to; you won't mind if I copy-cat? :)
I just love coming here. Your posts are so wonderfully nourishing. Thank you!

In that photo, you very much remind me of my former art teacher, and because she's still kind of a friend of mine and really lovely and... it's a good thing. :-) You're really blessed to be married to someone who understands you!

and you are gorgeous.

Those "boots" are so unique! What a great hubby you have.

I requested the movie from the library. Thanks for the heads up.

First of all, I'm jealous of your boots.

Second, I'm jealous of that blue couch in your header.

Jodi said...

Kat, I don't mind at all! And I can't wait to see your shoes. :)

Chelsey, Leslie, (and whoever else wants to watch Bright Star), warning: It's sad, but a good cry every now and then is very theraputic.

Chelsey said...

I love sad movies as long as they're good movies. Sad for the sake of sad is just plain sad...

Oh. I am *definitely* 'anything like' you. Uhhuh. Multiple veiwings to take in the rooms, the costumes the cinematic atmosphere. Some movies that I watch for a beauty fix have very little to commend themselves otherwise. No matter. I love coming here. Speaking of beauty-fixes...

now that's cute...love the photo of you knitting, crocheting or sewing?????

Love the shoes! Very cute.

I'm so glad you are enjoying A Passion for the Impossible. After reading that, you will want to pour over A Blossom in the Desert too...so amazing! Some of her artwork and excerpts from her journals.

I admit it, this post made me smile. When you talk about your husband, he reminds me of mine. We *are* lucky ducks. :)

Concerning your comment on the clutter - I'm glad I'm not a curiosity in the homeschooling world!

I love the way you imitated the picture. Can you believe I haven't seen Bright Star yet? I can't either. It's on my list.

Those are seriously one pair of rock-star shoes. I love them! Unfortunately I have no idea who Fannie Brawne is, so I must be hopeless uncultured. But at least I know she had good taste (as do you).

Dear Jodi,
What a comfort to receive your comment and know you were praying for me. Our lives have been a roller coaster since fall . . moving, holidays, trips, etc. Every time I've gone to write, I felt like there was a cork blocking my thoughts. I guess I've just felt unsettled. Yesterday morning I decided I would just write! The post's title, "Who Really Cares?" were the first words I wrote, reflecting my cynical heart. As I wrote, God softened and opened and taught me. And to know you cared . . wow! You are precious (someday I'm going to meet you!)
Love,
Kim

Jodi said...

Dear Kim, I'm looking forward to that day! Truly.

I just watched this movie and fell in love with those shoes. I doubt I'll be able to find them anywhere in Canada; maybe you could post the brand name so I could find them online?

Jodi said...

The shoe brand is called Blowfish.Happy hunting.

I know this was posted a year ago, but holy moly! I craved the heroine's shoes too!! They were on my mind for the rest of the movie.... currently I'm debating over a pair of shoes, and I went to myself "What would Bright-Star-Film-Fanny wear?"

: )
