Creek's risin'

We had an earthquake here on Tuesday. 5.9 on the Richter scale. Now don't laugh, Cali girls. Yes, I mean you, JoAnn ;)

And now gale force winds are blowin' as I type. There's a threat of power loss - the mayor of Philadelphia was on TV saying we may be out for two weeks. Hope not. Anyhoo, in the calm before the storm, we were taking some precautions. I'm most worried about my creatures great and small, especially my bees.

Being concerned that the hive might topple over, my lovely man had the idea to stake it down, running cord up and over the top in hopes that it will stay put.

Here it had just started to rain. He remained patient as the bees swarmed around his head before scurrying into their home. If you're wondering why the hive is on a table, it's because our entire property sits atop a massive ant farm. The hive has to be elevated to keep the ants from swarming it to get the honey.

These ladies are tucked in safe and sound as well.

You're such a good queen-bee mama! And, yes, JoAnn better not be smirking over our little ole east coast earthquake. See you when the lights come back on!

My husband and I are native Californians, although we are living on the East Coast and have for the last 7 years... We got a little bit of a shake and when I woke up my husband (who was napping) to ask him if he felt it, he shrugged, said it mighta been an earthquake, then rolled over and went back to sleep. Oy!

Hope you and your creatures don't get too wet and keep power!

Yes, Bee safe!
I don't do hurricanes and tornadoes. I guess I can stomach an earthquake. I hope your bees stand tall, your chickens stay warm and your internet gets back online before TWO WEEKS! I saw carousel horses today! From the 1900's! Fully restored! You would have D to the ied. It was gorgeous.
Anyway, that's what I've been doing while you've been battening down the hatches. I don't like your mayor after watching The Art of the Steal. I'll chose to take his words with a grain of salt.
You live on an ant bed? Woah.

I hope you won't be out of power for two weeks. I hope the bees and the chickens do well and when you harvest the honey with my family on Thursday take lots of pictures! I would really love to see them. My classes start on Thursday!

Hope all are safe and sound down there, Jodi! I didn't feel the earthquake, but my husband did. He grew up in No. Cal. and was definitely laughing. He said the New Englanders were reacting to the tremor the way that Southerners react to snow! Ba ha!
Hope your power is on. Thankfully we did not lose power, and the worst winds seem to be over now.

Things seem to be stirrin' there on the East Coast lately! I hope you and the bees survived the storm with no damage and that power, if it has gone out, will return speedily. We'd love some of your rain over here....but we are having a mini heat wave instead.

Hope your power is back by now, and all the bees and chickens and people are safe and well!

Did you end up losing power? I hope you and all the little creatures are safe up there!

You guys are an awesome port in the storm. Thank you for all the concerns and well wishes. We all got through it; a little bit of flooding in the laundry room. But considering the loses of many others, that is nothing to complain about at all. Thank you again, kind people. I hope all is well in your neighborhoods.

Dear Jodi,
Thank you for your lovely words that remind us the of the peace we have in Christ.

Glad to hear that you all weathered the storm. We returned from New York the day before it hit.

Peace,

Cheryl, ha ha, that's awesome. I didn't even notice. But it's kind of like life, isn't it?
