It was Supposed to be Just Gingerbread

November already? Hard to believe, but here we are. It's been another week of ups and downs, I tell ya. Like the downer of a sudden snow storm that took out several of my honey bees--but not all, thank God. And then the up of a delightful house guest. And the next best thing to the house guest, the motivation to clean the house before they get here.

And speaking of house work, I found myself breaking into fits of praise this morning while sorting through dirty laundry. Why? Peace of mind. I remembered that my last laundry day was fretful, waiting for news/a biopsy report. It's amazing how knowing you're healthy can make the mundane so precious. Wow, I'm all over the place today. This post was supposed to be just about gingerbread cookies with lemon glaze.

Are you loving my rolling pin? It was anniversary gift from my sweetheart two years ago, and like I said before, some women can be charmed by a rolling pin for an anniversary gift. If you'd like to know where to find one, go to The House on the Hill. And this is the best recipe to acompany it: here

The recipe for the glaze is confection sugar mixed with water. I substitute lemon juice for the water, because lemon and gingerbread are best friends.

yum. coolest looking rolling pin ever. not surprised to find it here:) and yes, sometimes the simple things (laundry sorting) are the ones that connect the events and emotions of it all. Blessings.

I would love if my husband were to give that rolling pin to me too. How lovely. I'm glad this week was a joyful time after the last week wasn't as you said waiting for results. Praise God, you are healthy. I've just joined your GFC and would love it if you'd join mine too. Have a blessed day. Nona@gr8day2save.com

haha, emily always says she likes to have company to motivate her to clean house! i'm sorry about the bees, though, they need to come here for the winter, i guess. i could bee-sit.

those are the most bee-u-ti-ful gingerbreads i've ever seen.

Oh my! That is one lovely rolling pin. Like a butter press but it rolls. Hmm. Going on my list. Sorry about your bees, but glad to hear that you are singing again!

Hi Mrs. Jodi,
I love your post. The cookies look so good. I am in Groton, MA right now since Sunday. We don't have classes until Monday due to snow, trees falling down and the power out. I love the pic of little Tilly. She is so cute!

that rolling pin is GORGEOUS. It reminds me of when Brian got me those beautiful little measuring cups. Isn't nice to have beautiful baking tools?! Thankful today for your health!

OH, yum, Jodi! This is making my mouth water. That and I got to read about how well you fed Nancy when I visited her place earlier. What a sweet read that was. So glad you got to meet in the flesh and talk eye to eye. Very special.

Thanks everybody for the gingerbread love. The recipe for the dough is the best I've ever tasted. You don't need a fancy roller to make good cookies. Plain cookie cutters would be great, I'd bet.

The ginger bread looks amazing *drooling.* I know what you mean; I was grateful for the cleaning frenzy I went on the day I went into labour. it was good to come home to a tidy home. No I'm grateful for cleaning because it means I found time to squeeze it in :)

jodi, happy to hear the well report (and sad to know i missed on the praying and hoping before-hand; He knows). love your rolling pin and your hubby's intuitiveness to get it, don't care for gingerbread, but the lemon intrigues.... :) and thanks, of course, for wondering aloud where i've been..... i've been in the quiet fog of my own little house and own little boys and just wondering how to sift out of it all. slowly, but surely.

Lemon glaze sounds just right for gingerbread and now with about five lemon trees (I haven't counted) we're all about lemons. I "pinned" the recipe. Thanks!

I want to be gingerbread's friend. I will tolerate lemon. If you could could you whip up some and some salmon patties. I will be watching for the mail;)
