Roots

Yes, I admit it, I love Downton Abbey, and my interest most lies with the goings on "downstairs". I feel an odd sort of kinship. It's in the roots.

One hundred and two years ago today, a photo was taken of my great grandmother. I don't know whole lot about my family history on her side...

...except that she worked as a domestic, a lady's maid, for a wealthy French family. From what I've heard, she was very loyal and devoted to her employer.

It's interesting, isn't it, to think back on where you came from. And all the fascinating characters that have woven their thread into your DNA.

Downton Abbey is marvelous! I'm so glad the ending was a happy one in this last season, and am eager for Season 3 to begin.

I know what you mean about roots...all those people whose genes we carry, who were they, what kind of lives did they lead, what were there character traits, what did they look like, and how to we resemble them and in what ways...it's amazing to think about and wonderful when little tidbits are known about them.

I think everyone is on the Downton Abbey bandwagon nowadays. Too bad I don't have netflix or some other way to watch the seasons I missed. So I did what we used to do all the time...jumped right in the middle of this season. Going to read about your great-grandmother.

Pictures do bring our ancestors closer to us, don't they.....And yet, in this world we can't quite connect with them as we might wish.....Recipes bring them closer in quite another way.....I like this soda bread recipe! And I have buttermilk!

Oh, I love Downton Abbey! Great acting, great story, AMAZING clothes! I can't wait for Season 3... It's neat that you have a "family connection" to that way of life - I'm sure that makes the show even more fun to watch. :o)

Thanks for coming to my little bitty blog! Those purses all belonged to my Mother in-laws. She had them since she was a teenager and young adult, I use them now. What goes around...comes back around. hehehe.
Have a happy weekend friend.

The Swede and I just finished season two last night. I have a serious dog crush on Isis.

So glad when photos like this (and the stories behind them) get preserved.

There is definitely a family resemblance. I love learning more about my heritage and the people that were part of it. Programs like Downtown Abbey give a tiny taste of what it must have been like. We love visiting the houses as well.
