Mid-life art-attack, or my love affair with red and blue

I blame the red shoes.

I found these sneakers in New Zealand, and I love them, love them, I do. The color is energizing. And when I wear them, I can run faster, jump higher, and I actually want to clean the house. Yep, they started a dangerous trend in the Acorn household. I suddenly felt the need for a change.

Well, maybe the shoes can't be entirely to blame. It really started when Old Blue gave up the ghost.

The frame of our dear thrifted 1920's sofa gave out. The three of us--the hubs, the youngest, and I--were snuggled up enjoying an episode of Cupcake Wars when suddenly -BAM!- the couch collapsed. Dry rot. Irreparable. After the prescribed mourning period passed...

...Old Blue was finally replaced with something Chesterfield-esque. Thank God. My weary eyes were starting to bleed from perusing the internet in search of another blue couch. So what does this have to do with red shoes? I don't know. Just stick with me here.

All of a sudden, this, with a can of paint...

...became this

And these were traded out

for these

Gosh, I dunno. Maybe it's because I've got to dress like this once or twice a week. I want to come home to mod. Maybe it's some sort of tempermental artist mid-life crisis. I won't say cabin fever, since I've milked that one to death.

Anyway, red shoes can sometimes be a dangerous business. Oh, and my daughter is sending me another pair in turquoise. Oh-oh...

Splashes of color rock. And red is my favorite color to splash. As for the tennis shows, tap your heels: you already know there's no place like home. :)

Great shoes! I too have a 'thing' about red shoes, though mine is for the strappy sandal type. Your new chairs really make a huge difference to your dining room. It looks so light and bright - love it!

I have one piece of fashion advice, and it is this: When in doubt, wear red. It has served me well for many years. Looks like it's doing the same for you.

And turquoise sneakers? I can just hear your "What would happen if" wheels turning. :)

I have a pair of red keds. Now I'm afraid to wear them ;)

Seriously though, I LOVE the red rocker!!! And I like the touches of "mod" here and there. Your house looks very much the house of an artist. You know how to blend styles so they look creative and cosy. It's a gift.

Maybe that's what I need . . some red shoes to get me unpacking our ten million boxes :p Love the changes!

You can get tennis shoes in red and turquoise here in the states, why have them shipped from NZ?

Jodi said...

Niamh, because shoes with Euro sizing seem to fit my wide hobbit feet better than American shoes. And they won't be mailed - someone visiting Joy is bringing them back for me.

Thanks, bloggy friends, for your comments and joining in the fun.

You're always up to something fun, Jodi! I love the results. You have a lot of color courage--maybe someday I will acquire this virtue!

Ah! I knew there was some reason.
I'm glad that you call them "Hobbit" feet because the Little Miss has some too and I tell her that she has "Hobbit" feet.

I read this the SECOND you posted it and I was in my bed on my phone and I couldn't for the life of me get it to leave you a comment. So I went to sleep, dreaming of red shoes and blue couches.

I love everything you've done here...with your abode. It's delightful. I LOVE THE DINING ROOM CHAIRS, I LOVE THE NEW COUCH, etc. etc.
I am a firm believer in mixing old with new. Right?

Wonderful! The new couch is fabulous (though what a moment of shock you all must have had when Old Blue collapsed!) and I like the red chairs! I wear a lot of red because winter is my color season and it may be energizing, at that. Change is always good, especially change that you initiate! Exciting days at your house!

My wife sent me this post. Perhaps it's because I bought a red truck. Then I noticed my red lunch box and coffee mug look real good in it. One day I needed a hand truck, yes it's red too. It all started with a red t shirt. She won't let me get her red appliances :(
