Deck the clogs with boughs of holly

I have an unexplainable passion for wooden clogs. I have no idea why, but I'm very attracted to them. I find them--or should I say they find me--at garage sales, thrift shops, and flea markets. I try to be discriminating so as not to let this become an out of hand obsession. That being said, I still hope to find a pair that fit me, because I would actually wear them. But until that time, I like to be creative with the ones I have, to sort of justify my wee addiction...I know I can quit at any time ;)

Two clogs, rawhide cord

Most of the clogs I have found have pre-drilled holes in them. This makes it easy to string them with cord.

Next, stuff some plastic wrap or small sandwich bags into the shoes to protect the wood.

Insert some floral foam that has been soaked in water.

Now add the desired greenery.

Voila! 'Tis the season to be jolly...

What a unique alternative to the traditional holly wreath.
I grew up near a coalmining town in Lancashire, where many of the miners wore clogs with metal rims (like horseshoes) and studs that clattered wonderfully on the cobbled streets. They were practical clogs, not like your pretty ones, but I thought they were special.

O Maureen, those are clogs I would like to have seen (and heard).

So what shoemakers today call "clogs" must give you the willies! A wonderful and unique arrangement. I'm wondering about those pre-drilled holes. Ventilation? Do they let water out or in? Hmm ...

yeah. I was wondering the same Rosie.

That is the prettiest welcome swag, Jodi!
To have found those with the motif from Holland (where clog stuffing St. Nicholas traditions abound) must have been sheer joy! Then to decorate them with Holly and Pine!! Your hands must be happy and your soul satisfied to pretty up your house for the special days ahead.
I was just saying to myself today- my soul is thirsting for beauty...and I got a lovely boost of it seeing your work/play.
Thanks, little elf (I love the photo of you engrossed in your work! You remind me of Audrey!)
Love, Joan

To be compared with Miss Audrey is quite an honor.

Jodi, You are the coolest!
Love the clogs but there is one problem. The coins or candy will fall to the doormat and be taken or eaten by the squirrels.

Curious.... they may prefer them to acorns in this winter tide!

Dear Bill. Hi-larious! Fortunately, I hung the clogs after St. Nicholas Day, as I have no intention of sharing treats with squirrels (unless they are red squirrels - those I like).
