These look delicious. I have never had a candied violet. Do they just taste like sugar? I forgot to ask you, Andy and I are going to try to make your grandmother's soda bread at one of the reenactments. I know it's not the best circumstances for making bread. What do you think the best way is to make it in a dutch oven?
Yummy!!I wish I was at your home to eat one with you!
Steph, a Dutch oven will work fine. Just make sure you have good coals, which you probably know already. I'm guessing the bake time would be about 30 minutes. I usually thump bread on the underside of the loaf; if it makes a hallow sound, that means it's cooked through. As for the candied violets, they do taste like sugar :)
Rayanne, you'd be welcome!
Thanks Jodi. Should I put it in a tin pan or will that burn it?
Yes, put it in a tin pan, just to be safe.
Hi Jodi, this is in response to your comment on my scherenitte at Thickethouse, in case you don't see my reply there....Hi Jodi, I use an exacto knife and cut on a small rubber mat such as is used for cutting quilt fabric. Don’t be afraid! It’s lots of fun and can totally absorb you so you sort of step outside of time for a bit.
