Blessed October

What is more cheerful now, in the fall of the year, than an open-wood fire? Do you hear those little chirps and twitters coming out of that piece of applewood? Those are the ghosts of the robins and blue-birds that sang upon the bough when it was in blossom last spring. In summer whole flocks of them come fluttering about the fruit trees under the window: so I have singing birds all the year round.

Ah that chair by the fire just looks heavenly! Having a laugh about the Vegemite - didn't even know you could buy it in the States. Good 'ol axle grease as we called it when we were children. Hope you are enjoying your autumn as much as we are revelling in our southern spring.

Yes, yes, yes...never tried vegemite, only marmite. But toast, yes, of course.
The fire looks so lovely! Blessings on your week, Jodi!

i have no clue what vegemite is, and for some reason, after the axle grease comment, i am glad that i don't have a clue.
i love the fire! you must live in an old house, it looks old and cozy and full of charming character. i would like to have a house like that someday. and, there is just nothing better than wood heat.

Julia, I got my vegemite in New Zealand, but I heard some markets carry it here although I haven't found it yet.

Kit and Vicki, I like vegemite better than marmite because it's more salty, less yeasty. Vicki, if you like salty things, you might want to try it. You put it on buttered toast. It's an aquired taste, I think; you have to kind of get used it.

I do hope that next week you list, "Whiskers on kittens." Or, "Bright copper kettles." Have yet to enjoy our first fire of the season. Don't think it will be long. Have a beautiful week, friend!

Cozy, warm, wonderful post. Tea "tins" and "vegemite" - you Anglophile, you. And I'm right there with ya. Except for eating vegemite. Think I'll pass on that one.

Your pictures bring such good memories!
The vegimite: In England, I tasted my first bit of marmite, horrible tasting. However, on the table right next to the marmite was clotted cream, I fell in love..and then fell in love with Zac a short bit later.
The fireplace: I love fire, and all the orange peels you hang in your fireplace.
Old stamps: So exciting to get mail, and more exciting to get it from overseas!
New tools for new projects: I love getting carried away by my imagination and a new craft.
Poor Miss Brondoll collecting the kindling: I always thought it was so cute how she would go out to collect it resigned to the task and come back in with a smile and ready to talk about some adventure she found on the way to getting a bag full of kindly-bits.
Raindrops on roses: I'm more of a "whiskers on kittens" person myself, but planted roses on the side of a building hold their own charm.
Tea tins: So fun to rummage through junk shops and antique shops looking for a "slightly-rusty-something-quaint-and-pretty."

Aw I feel so snuggly now. What part of the country are you from? These pictures remind me of New England but there's still green...

You have a great fire place! These are a few of my favorite things ;-) Except for Vegemite, I have never had it, sounds interesting.

Being an Aussie, your vegemite and tea tins jumped right out at me. Love them both! Nothing beats a pot of tea and vegemite on toast for breakfast. The trick with vegemite is not to spread it too thickly-I like more butter/marg than vegemite. And a spoonful in hot water makes a great winter drink too ;-) Beautiful photos. blessings..Trish

Thanks for the vegemite tip, Trish!

oh i would just love to sit down by this woodfire - it looks too inviting... that's something i'm looking forward to when it gets colder - and i think every time i'll see an open woodfire now, i will think of the all year round singing birds..thanks for this!

Beautiful. Only the vegemite made me shiver a little.

You have an eye for it. And, while I read this and pondered everyday beauty, I almost believed that I liked vegemite.

I'm a marmite girl. Love the fire side photo. We are yet to light our first fire this season and who can resist rain on rose petals. Looking forward to seeing what you are crafting. I'm intrigued by the tool on the table. Not sure what it is, but I now want one!
