Thankful for such things

"I would make it a rule to eradicate from my patient any strong personal taste which is not actually a sin, even if it is something quite trivial such as a fondness for country cricket or collecting stamps or drinking cocoa. Such things, I grant you, have nothing of virtue in them, but there is a sort of innocence and humility and self-forgetfulness about them which I distrust."

Screwtape speaking to Wormwood in The Screwtape Letters, C.S. Lewis

Counting blessings

344 - start with an early morning visit to Aunt Barbie's doughnuts

345 - deciding that a party of three necessitates the purchase of the three-dozen family pack

346 - riding the back roads

347 - while listening to audio books

348 - being made to slow down

349 - giving us time to enjoy the view

350 - then meeting up with friends who invite you to...

351 - a Saint Patrick's Day feast

352 - and dancing home by the light of the moon

Ooh, now I want doughnuts. Love this post!

By the way, now you've got us hooked on Downtown Abbey. And we've only got one episode left until they leave us hanging!

Lovely. We drove a ways today to see friends and saw two carriages like the one you pictured and backroads as well. So good in so many ways. And what a pic of that moon!

Sounds like a super day! Where you live, looks just like where I live (the scenery)....and I like being made to slow down very much. And...I like donuts.

Quite so. And those likings Screwtape distrusts he distrusts quite right, I think... because if your liking doughnuts brings you to getting lots of them for your friends... and my liking blueberry yoghurts makes for a blueberry yoghurt waiting for me almost every time father goes shopping... there's something going on, isn't there? ;-)

And...dance by the light of the moon...Oh, I DO hope you stopped to throw a rock at the old Granville Place!

Screwtape Letters is some of the best theology I've ever read.

Oooo, an audio version of Screwtape! I've got to get me one.

Your day sounds pretty close to paradise...

Leslie, do try to get this paticular version. Andy Serkis of LOTRs fame (Gollum) is Screwtape - brilliant! Focus on the Family put it out.

Jodi:

What a grand day you had, a brief moment in time filled with joy and love and laughter, I loved following along with your wonderful photo's and yes yum to the donuts and all the potluck food, - now I would love a cup of tea and to listen to "Screwtape" and yes a hot fresh donut,

Yum. Doughnuts! They are our "if you are good at the shops" treat at the moment. (Yes, I am into bribery. I am that mother!)

Loved seeing the shots of your journey. We have a few brave pony and traps around here, but not the same style at all.

This sounds like a perfect day. Doughnuts, a great book, and a slow ride in the country sounds wonderful!

I’m here from Ann’s today

And - 348 - being made to slow down - that was the thank you on your list I most liked because I could hand out for a week on that analogy – that’s a story – I think that’s a story…

God Bless and Keep you and all of yours.

Slowing down while eating donuts and listening to CS Lewis on tape while driving on the scenic back roads on the way to celebrating with friends and then dancing home by the light of the moon sounds like one great St. Patrick's day! Hope this week has even more blessings.
