Jam Session

My husband is an amazing musician. Our sons like to brag that he can play more instruments than most men have had hot meals.

He's passed down the music gene to all our children. They certainly didn't get it from me. Apart from appreciation, I have no musical ability whatsoever, even after a few years of piano lessons. It just wasn't happenin'.

No worries. My passions to create lie elsewhere. So while my family fills the house with music, I do some jamming of my own.

With fake book in hand (hey, when you live with musicians, you pick up the lingo!), I'm ready to rock

A good conductor is a master of measures and timing

tapping my toes to the beat of the boil

hot rhythm section to add sizzle

Crescendo to a stirring finale

The maestro lives for the castanet-like snap of a well-sealed jar

To quote one of my favorite vocalists, Mama Cass Elliot, "You gotta make your own kind of music" :)

Ahh...nothing like homemade jam! I love hearing that "snap" too - so satisfying! :o)

It seems we share this in common: we are both married to musicians and music is not our talent...and in my case, even "jamming" is not my talent. Though I hear it's easy to do. And delicious to eat too.

Squee! LOVE YOU!
I wished to be a pianist, but sadly it wasn't meant to be. I think it has something to do with my complete lack of math skills and my inability to keep any sort of organized thought or rhythm.

I love that you jam and make your own music. Not that I'm surprised. This post makes me happy.

And, it sort of reminds me of my grandma. Which is a good thing.

Hee hee! Looks like I can make music then. I love making jam (strawberry jam to be made today) and there is a definite beat while I garden.

I am living my music instrument dream through my children, at the moment. My eldest has taught me to play a tune on the harp. I was on cloud nine all day! I wish I had started to learn when I was knee high to a grasshopper. I so love hearing real music flowing through the house.

My toe is tapping.

Okay, I can neither make music nor jam. Jam-making reminds me too much of high school chemistry class--having to get things to a certain temperature or pressure, or else people will die. I nearly break out into hives just thinking about it. Guess I'm gonna hafta live vicariously through you, once again.

P.S. I will be on summer break after tomorrow!! Yay! :) So I will definitely be getting the new Penderwicks book. It's amazing how much alike we all are. We really have to meet one of these days. We'd have so much to discuss.

Mmmmm! That jam looks yummy! But everything you make is absolutely scrumptious!

You reminded me that a couple of weeks ago, I made strawberry-rhubarb muffins. They were nice because the fruit cooked into the muffins and got kind of soft and jam-like. If you like, I can send you the recipe. I bet they'd be fab with your jam.

A lovely post! You are definitely many kinds of artist, Jodie!
I am enjoying reading the book Preserving Memories by Judy Glattstein just now. It is the right time of year for this.....

My Ball Book is just about as old as yours! Love the jamming you're doing here...both kinds. I'm a wanna be musician, too. My granddaddy was a steel guitarist. My other granddaddy taught himself to play guitar, banjo and fiddle. I so wish I could play something. I just tap my toes to the music my children make. ;)
