Kiwi Thrifty

An amusing and diverting time was had by all in the company of my daughter and her lovely mother-in-law, Helen. Thrift shops here are called op shops. Opportunity knocked and I answered.

I found a few cool things--and not for very much money might I add being the "Bargain Betty" that I am--my favorite score being New Zealand pure wool plaid blankets in excellent condition; not a moth hole to be found.

Also, a teatime loose tea scoop from Australia which, I may use for tea or wear as a pendant; still deciding.

Score! I love exploring thrift shops. I can't imagine getting to visit one in another country.

Our op shops aren't even close to the quality of Pennsylvania ones; but stoked you managed to find some little gems :)

awesome... and now i know what to tell my sister to get me when she goes to new zealand on sunday, a wool plaid blanket! (do you see a trend here jodi... she comes home, he comes to visit for two months, he leaves, she goes back to new zealand this time for five months. i'm expecting to hear bells here soon and then i'll be losing my sister to new zealand.)

I think thrift and op sound so much better than our UK version - charity shops! I'd love to thrift or find opportunities. You found some lovely things.

Angelina, haven't tried the oysters, but the fish and chips are pretty stellar.

I must have missed that you were going for a visit, Jodi! I have been thinking of you and how badly you must want to hold that beautiful grand baby! I am so very happy that you have this time with your girls :)

Wait, you were planning on wrapping up a pretty little baby and smuggling her out of the country in that plaid blanket, were you? ;)

Cheryl, I know, they're so cool (and warm!), and I love that they call them "rugs" here.

Jodi said...

Jennifer, thank you. It's wonderful.

Oh, what fun! Isn't it wonderful to imagine the stories "they" could tell?

Great finds....I'm with Leslie, use for a pendant...

Take lots of pictures and make lots of memories...

If you wear the teatime scoop as a pendant it'd be convenient for real tea use (after a quick clean up:). Delightful finds~all of them!
Okay, I forgot to tell you that Kinfolk vol. 2 has an article on Beekeeping. Totally thought of you! Then, I was showing poem Jennifer the mag. and she said the same thing. Wish you lived close, I'd run it over for a view. Best price I found was on Amazon, but it came a bit dirty. Oh well.
It's cold here. Wish I had your wool blanket right now!

Love the name op shop! So New Zealand-sounding. And those silver spoons look fascinating... like something from Downton Abbey. So glad you're having such a grand time - and I loved hearing about that tea shop and the cakes. (What sort of cakes were they? I can only imagine....) We wish we had been there, too!

Also, your new header is adorable!

Dear Jodi,
me and my mom go to thrift shops all the time! my mom calls thrift shops(or op shops)"treasure chests".
When we go there,i'm usualy in the clothes section. When i'm done my search,I start looking for my mom allover the store. When I see her my mom's shopping cart(shopping carts) and arms are stuffted whith the various things:
cookie tins, boxes to paint, lamp shades, and other things to fiddle with.My mom is right, thrift shops ARE treasure chests.
